Ubisoft has big problems with DRM and PC versions of their games. The latest game from Ubisoft, called From Dust, can already be nominated for the worst game of the year title. To play the game you must be connected to the internet the whole time, the game is locked to 30 frames per second and there are no graphic settings to change. Not only that, but the game is also very poorly optimized, and as a result won’t run on many machines that could technically play it fine.
The next game that is coming out from Ubisoft is the new Driver, and PC Gamers think that same thing will happen with this game. PC gamers today are already angered by the fact that most companies don’t do proper PC games anymore. Big shots say piracy is the problem, but that can be disagreed with.
The main problem from the PC gamer’s viewpoint is games being designed like the mentioned-above From Dust. These games are called ports. From Dust is a game made for the gaming consoles and then directly converted for the PC without proper optimization, and often games like these lack even the most basic PC-game features.
Hopefully companies will one day realize that the PC is the best platform to make games for – it’s not limited to outdated hardware and it has way more methods of control. For the PC, companies could make games the way they want to, and be free from the limits of the consoles while providing gamers with quality products.
